Giving war-traumatized kids a future with hope

War trauma doesn’t heal on its own. Future4Kids trains caregivers – teachers, volunteers, youth workers – to help children process what they’ve experienced and discover hope again.

Future4Kids supports three initiatives:

  • Jacaranda Communities of Hope – Trauma-informed care training
  • Children Mission – Equipping adults to care for traumatized kids
  • Good4U club – Safe space for kids to connect and grow

Impact so far

  • 18 adults trained in trauma-informed care
  • 38 war-traumatized kids helped at an emotional support camp
  • 20 kids in a frontline town come together in a safe environment
  •  Ukrainian emotional support training under development

Jacaranda Communities of Hope

Empowering ordinary adults to support war-traumatized children.

The approach
Jacaranda empowers ordinary adults without medical training to provide effective emotional support for war-traumatized kids. The foundation: giving children undivided attention and unconditional love so they feel heard, valued, and safe.

What happened
In August 2025, Our Daily Bread ran a Jacaranda training  in Ukraine. Eighteen Ukrainian adults completed the training, which included running an emotional support camp for 38 war-traumatized kids.

The impact
These adults now use their skills in emotional regulation clubs for kids, play therapy in after-school clubs, and teaching children how to express what they feel. Our Daily Bread supports former trainees through these activities and encourages them to continue training through Children Mission courses.

The “Jacaranda” training gave important knowledge on how to develop emotional intelligence, teach children effective communication, and help them to better understand themselves and others.

Children Mission

Spreading trauma-informed care throughout Ukraine.

Children Mission equips adults to care for traumatized kids through training courses, webinars, and workshops. They help teachers, volunteers, and churches understand trauma and create safe spaces for children to grow.

Two of their trainers joined our Jacaranda training in August 2025. Director Lyudmila Bryn showed us that Children Mission already has a strong training system, skilled trainers, and a large network. Partnering with them puts Ukrainian leadership at the center, where it belongs.

What’s next?

Children Mission will adapt the Jacaranda experience into their own training module for emotional support camps. They’re also developing a webinar on emotional safety in children’s camps—an often-overlooked need in Ukraine.

Jacaranda trainer Tim Friesen advises to ensure expertise transfers well. Our Daily Bread helps Children Mission strengthen their website, attract funding, and expand their reach.

Good4U club

A safe place to be a kid when war steals childhood.

What it offers
The Good4U club in Oleksandrivka offers children a safe place to forget about the war for a while, relax, have fun, and build healthy relationships. The club helps children develop essential life skills and learn about their rights and responsibilities.

Since schools and sports clubs in Oleksandrivka closed due to the war, many children have few opportunities to connect socially. Good4U provides board games, crafts, sports, and fancy dress activities, bringing children a sense of normalcy and joy.

Current reality
When Russian advances turned Oleksandrivka into a frontline town in summer 2025, the Good4U Club was suspended. Most children have been sent by their parents to safer locations.

Our Daily Bread works with partner Natasha Nadiuk to support the children still left in Oleksandrivka
