Village leaders set a good example

Village leaders play a key role in enabling people to change their mindset in the Oleksandrivka region. This year, we will focus on village leaders who supervise the Livelihoods initiatives Seeds of Hope and Chickens4Health in their communities.

These leaders will encourage Seeds of Hope participants to maintain their gardens and share produce with neighbors in need. They will also set a good example to follow in the Chickens4Health initiative that starts in their villages this spring. The leaders will receive chickens paid for by the Team Oleksandrivka project to remunerate them for their work. They will then set an example for the six households in their village who will receive chickens by showing them how to keep and breed chickens and sell eggs. If the leaders encounter problems in the Seeds of Hope and Chickens4Health initiatives, they will consult with our partner Yevhen Nadiuk. This will show the villagers that good leaders act in their people’s interest and seek advice where necessary.

The village leaders will monitor both Livelihoods initiatives and send Yevhen regular photo updates to keep us informed about the progress of the projects. In turn, Yevhen will closely mentor these village leaders.
