Why Frontline?

Frontline helps communities to remain resilient. We provide opportunities for people to meet and support one another, as well as the practical help they need to live, not merely survive. Our current focus is on Oleksandrivka, located on the edge of the Donbas. As Russian troops advanced, it became a frontline community in the summer of 2025. Before this time, we had supported the community through various projects. Now, due to the strong relationship of trust we have built with the people there, we can stand by them in their hour of need.

Frontline currently supports four initiatives:

  • Woman Together club
  • Team Oleksandrivka
  • Men First club
  • Evacuation fund

Woman Together club

At the Women Together club, women enjoy a meal in a safe environment where they dare to discuss what truly concerns them. Here, they do not have to worry about people gossiping about them if they say something (a common problem in small towns). The women talk about many different things: health issues, their children, husbands who are away fighting or dare not leave home for fear of being called up to the army. And since the frontline got closer, their plans to evacuate should that day come.

“These meetings help women to get away from everyday life. Our frank conversations in which everyone participates help them to see their problems and how to overcome these.”

Team Oleksandrivka

Team Oleksandrivka provides a small remuneration to individuals who assist our partner Yevhen with projects in the local community. It also enables Yevhen to train village leaders in basic project management skills, such as monitoring and reporting.

“Life in rural Eastern Ukraine is harsh. There is scarcely any work, and people struggle to survive. Thanks to your Team Building fund, the village leaders can earn additional income as they work with us to help people in their communities thrive. The fund also helps me involve men in various humanitarian activities because I can pay them a small remuneration for their work. Most men do not have jobs, and so every bit of income they receive  helps their families to survive.”

Men First club

Men First gives men the opportunity to meet over a meal, talk, and support each other. Their time together always starts with barbecuing the meat for the meal, an activity they take great pride in. The men will happily spend an evening talking about football or fishing, but there is also time for more serious things, like how to provide an income for their family or the latest developments in the war.

“This is a great time when men can get out of their homes, come together, relax, briefly leave the stress behind, talk, and savor delicious food.”

Evacuation fund

Internally displaced people. That is what you read in reports and newspaper articles. No! It is about individuals.

Meet Tamara. She is a member of the church of our partner Yevhen and Natasha Nadiuk in Oleksandrivka. Our secretary Dave has met her at the church. She is a quiet but thankful lady. However, the stress of living in Oleksandrivka as the frontline got closer in the summer of 2025 became too much for her. Of course, she did not want to leave her home, her friends, her church behind. Fortunately, unlike many in her position, Tamara had a warm place to go to. The home of her daughter in the city of Poltava. However, she could not pay the cost of moving her belongings as well. That is where our evacuation fund made the difference. Our partner Yevhen used his van to take Tamara and her belongings to her daughter’s home in Poltava. Tamara contributed to the costs by paying Yevhen what a bus ticket to Poltava would have cost her. Our Daily Bread paid the rest. This unwanted move was painful enough for Tamara. At least now she could take her belongings and move with dignity.

With our evacuation fund, Our Daily Bread can help more people like Tamara in the Oleksandrivka community. Individuals with a name and a story who have a place to go, but not the financial means to get there with their belongings.
