Our history
We started in Bakhmut, Eastern Ukraine in 2020, where we funded the renovation of a rehab center for alcoholics and efforts to make the center self-financing. When the full-scale war broke out in February 2022, Our Daily Bread spent several months enabling its partners to provide humanitarian aid and evacuate people in the Sumy, Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Eastern Ukraine before major aid agencies became fully active on the ground.
Drops of Hope
In mid-2022, we launched our Drops of Hope approach: small-scale grassroots projects with a low investment but a large impact. Because every donation, combined with the knowledge and hope we share, makes a lasting difference in Ukrainian lives. For example, we supported a youth group and a women’s club in the frontline town of Lyman until the situation there became too dangerous. And we established our successful seed and chicken projects in the Oleksandrivka region of the Donbas.
Steady growth
Throughout 2024, our network in Ukraine steadily grew and we decided to move forward and work with partners beyond Eastern Ukraine. In 2025, we further devloped our support of military chaplains through our project Home Front. And we strengthened our focus on supporting our partners’ work with war-traumatized kids by providing the Jacaranda Communities of Hope training and children’s camp.
What have we accomplished since 2020?
Here are a few of our accomplishments:
– Support of rehab center for drug and alcohol addicts in Bakhmut (now sadly destroyed)
– Construction community center in Sumy
– Over 1300 people evacuated from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions
– Several hundred people received humanitarian aid in the first months of 2022
– Over 300 households received seeds to grow their own vegetables
– Over 35 households received chickens to earn a small income
– 18 people trained in how to work with war-traumatised kids
– 3 military chaplains supported in their work with soldiers
